End-of-Life Vehicle
ELV is the directive of the European Commission and the European Parliament on the recycling of scrap vehicles to protect the environment and reduce the waste generated by vehicle scrap. Its main directives are 2000/53/EC and 2005/64/EC. It requires that the four harmful substances, lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium, be banned for vehicles produced after July 2003. In 2014, China issued the GB/T 30512-2014 Standard (Requirements for Prohibited Substances for Automobiles), which stipulates prohibited substances in automotive products and parts.
